Maple Days Update

This came from Keith Heasley, WVMPSA President, on March 14:

WVMSPA Members:

Based on the increasing levels of “social isolation” being implemented by the government, in particular, the K-12 school closings, Heasley Homestead Maple has decided to cancel its Maple Day open house on March 21st.

As WVMSPA president, I also recommend each individual sugar shack closely evaluate the specific risk at their particular location and consider canceling the event at their location.

If you do decide to cancel, please let Tina Barton (miketinabo@gmail.com) know so that she can update the website, and sugar shacks that plan to continue and participate should make sure that there is a good phone number on the website so that people can call to confirm.

Since then, several sugarhouses have canceled their open houses. However, many still have maple syrup to sell. If would-be visitors still want some maple syrup, feel free to contact sugarhouses by phone or email, or go to their website, if available, to order product by mail.

See the map here. Right now orange “X” icons mean the sugarhouse canceled, or otherwise is not open on March 21. Red leafs mean they may have limited presentations (small groups outdoors). But please, as this is a fluid situation, call before going.

As for restaurants and lodging, some have closed or canceled, but as far as we know, all lodging packages are still available. Restaurants may be forced to close by the end of the week by government mandate. Green “silverwear” icon means they still plan to be open. A red “X” means closed – don’t go. A blue pin means we have not heard one way or another, so call before going.

In general, the advice is stay home, but if you really need an outing, call before going to any of our venues.

Thank you,

Tina Barton, WVMSPA webmaster
