The State Fair of West Virginia is behind us and the West Virginia Maple Syrup Producers Association (WVMSPA) was well represented by our members throughout the course of the fair. During the ten days of the fair the WVMSPA sold 752 bags of Maple Cotton Candy and provided fair goers with countless samples. All revenue from the sales go directly to the association which should provide us with a gross amount around $3,500 prior to expenses being reimbursed (sugar, bags, tickets to enter the fair for volunteers…). I had numerous people approach me while at the fair and make the comment “We’re so glad you’re back we have been looking forward to this cotton candy …” our presence in the Agriculture Building is noticed by the public.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again time is one of our most precious commodities and I would like to personally thank our members that took the time to volunteer their personal time to be the face of the WVMSPA at the fair.

I would also like to thank Brandon for coordinating the scheduling of volunteers, picking up of supplies and ensuring that everything was on hand to make our showing a successful one.
Along with the booth the WVMSPA also sponsored our first State Fair Competition “Savory Maple”. I’m pleased to say that I feel it was a huge success for a first year competition and I’m happy to announce that our very own John Wayne took home top honors. Congratulations John!!
